Want to know what a truly rare, one-of-a-kind comic book looks like? Then feast your eyes on this improbable copy, the highest graded and finest existing TOS #39 in the world. It comes from the greatest and highest graded pedigree of all time not named Mile High and is a gorgeous, investment quality NM+!! It features the very first appearance (as well as origin) of one of Marvel's flagship characters, Iron Man, in a classic production by Stan Lee (story), Jack Kirby (cover art) and Don Heck (interior art). As most discerning collectors know, this book is almost impossible to find in Near Mint or better (there are only two 9.4's and two 9.6's so far graded) and here is one that is actually better. It has a glossy, incredibly colorful cover (rare on this issue due to the grayish/greenish shaded background), a serious spine, ridiculous edges, sharp corners and only one tiny, almost invisible flaw that keeps it from a 9.8!! (a tiny non-color breaking stress at the bottom right corner that you can't see without squinting). This is undoubtedly the nicest copy ever offered for sale and the only NM+ ever brought to market (the other 9.6 is from the White Mountain Collection and is locked in a safety deposit box as part of a private collection and won't see the light of day for decades). This comic is a true piece of American culture that seems to get overlooked by the other Marvel keys. With the upcoming Iron Man movie just around the corner, that is going to change.
